The computer has been working fine until this afternoon.

Walked into the offive to find the blue screen.

When I tried to boot the computer again it takes me to a page where Ihave the choice to auto-repair boot system or restart computer normally, but as I can't move the cursor with the keyboard arrows it automatically goes into auto repair.

After lots of faffing it tells me it can't auto repair.

I can't get past this.

If I boot from the windows disc and reload or repair windows will it affect other info on my HDD?

I can't see what else to do.

PS anyone want to buy a PC? Light use only, because the heap of **** is never working.

usb keyboard ? put it in other usb ports, mainly the ones that are directly on the motherboard as they get power right away. i get this problem (keyboard not working) when i use my external usb hub.

before trying a new usb port turn the pc off first as it wont automatically pick up the keyboard for some reason if you change it while its counting down.

for usb keyboard; check legacy usb settings in system bios is enabled.

first thing to check is that your HDD bios settings have not reset themselves..this behaviour is typical of if the IDE and AHCI settings have been swapped.

so check that settings in BIOS.

if that isn't the culprit then boot from your OS disc and follow installation til you get to a screen that gives you the option to repair your computer in the bottom left hand corner.

click this and it will load windows diagnostic mode.

now you have options to auto repair of use command prompt or even system restore to resolve the issue.

try command prompt first and then type chkdsk /r

let it do its thang and restart.

if that doesn't work then give system restore a go following the same steps as above.

The USB keyboard works fine in the setup menu..

Kiri, will doing a system restore risk anything on the HDD?

I followed Kiri's advice but can't run Chkdsk/r because it says it is write ptotected.

When I tried system restore it said that there was no system selected, restart computer and select system to restore.

How would I do that?

System restore will only effect windows and software files...not personal data and files like my documents etc

When you start loading the repair console system it should detect a windows os....does it do that?

If it does, then once your at command prompt try typing c:\ to change prompt to c drive instead of X drive....then retry chkdsk command
