Why do you need to read music?

Eileen, why compete, what are the things that you do well? Do them better, lets say you are an average cook (for example), how about doing a cooking course specialising in fish?

We all like to listen to music but at the end of the day we HAVE to eat. Share Ians music and he will share the washing up I would.

You young women crack me up at times

I am a qualified chef and I enjoy baking cakes etc while Ian plays his music.

I actually wanted to play the Clarinet but now I'm not too sure. I don't think I'll bother.

My "why do you need to read music" question was purely for information. And now I finally know why.

With that information I can tell you if you get the instrument and some beginning "how to" books of the type the schools use to teach new students, it will show you what fingering on the instrument matches what note.

You will basically absorb the "reading music" bit while learning to play the instrument. Six of my offspring took up band instruments of one sort or another and they all did just what I recommended to you.

And by all means, if you want to do this, then do.

My guess is that some of the other replies here were meant as jokes and simply came out harsh. But regardless, there is no reason to let some strange responses on here stop you from trying something you want to do.

i cannot see how anything but quacks can be obtained from reed instruments ,our daughter tried to learn the clarinet at school despite several types of reeds (some very expensive) the best she could get was a cacofany (spelling) of mallards ,it wasnt that she was dim (despite her father ) (who ever he was) she could listen to a pop song a couple of times and repeat it on her synth ,go for a flute i`d say :)

None of this "the enemy of my enemy is my friend" crap it just means i have at least two enemies!

There is only one opinion i listen to ,its mine and its ALWAYS right even when its wrong
