Quick question, im looking at a lure/spinning rod but i cant really tell what the difference between the two is. They both seem to do the same job in ways so is their any real difference?

It will mainly be used for perch, chub, pike and slim possibility of eel and zander.

Spinners are lures so "lure rod" = "spinning rod".

There are a few specialised types of lure rod out there for dropshotting, jigging and other methods but most budget to mid range rods from the big manufacturers are all-rounders.

So long as you're not planning on throwing bigger lures for the pike, A 2.1 to 2.2m rod casting 10 - 20g should see you right. Avoid anything with an overlong butt though because they're a pain to move around your body.

Thankyou for clarifying that point for me. Is there any particular make of rod that is better then others?

There are probably as many answers to that as there are posters on AN !

Best advice is to try ANY reputable make of around 8' , designed to cast middle-of-the-range weights, say 15 to 30 g (roughly half to one ounce) and see how you get on.

A few lure-casting sessions, and better still, a few predators to show for it, and you will soon get a "feel" for what suits you.

You may end up like me, with as many lure-casting rods of different casting-weights and lengths as Tiger Woods has golf clubs. :)

A budget and a bit more detail about where and for what you intend to use it for would help.

You have a limited window though, lure fishing for chub in particular suddenly gets a lot harder come the first cold nights of September.
