Dodgy file hangover.

Having got rid of the dodgy file, my computer has gone back to normal, except for one "hangover".

Soon after logging on to the Internet, Norton Firewall advise me that "Live Update etc. etc. is attempting to access the Internet"

I tick the "granted" box and the "always use this etc" option.

Then, about 15 seconds later I get a message, "IAMAPP. EXE experiencing problems will close etc", also invites me to tell Microsoft.

How do I stop this happening , please ?

Try This or possibly a reinstall of Norton since the file could be corrupt.

If you re-install Norton you will probably find that your subscription to Live Update is no longer valid. That's what happened to me when I had to install a new hard disk, even though my subscription had well over six months to run. I found it absolutely impossible to get through to Symantec, either by phone, fax or email (just try finding a valid email address!). In the end I wrote it off and installed the free version of AVG - I've never regretted it.

Peter, that happened to me a few years ago.

As I only had 2 months left, it seemed easier to pay again.

I have just (last weekend), renewed my years subscription for both Norton Anti Virus and Norton Firewall. :(

I think its the Firewall that is the problem.

Newt, If I have to reinstall Norton, do I have to uninstall completely whats already on my computer ?

Or, can I reinstall over it ?

Probably a silly question, but I am thinking of all the updates I will have to catch up with, plus the probable subscription problem.

With Norton is usually pays to remove everything so do the add/remove and then get a copy of symclean.exe from the norton site to clear out any remaining bits.

Here is a link to the security thread I opened when you first were having problems. Some suggestions on there you should probably follow and I'd love something to post as a follow-up/wrap-up to give the thread some closure.
