once a programs been installed, you cant then save it to a cd, have you still got the original file you downloaded? (probably a .zip file) thats the one you need to save to the cd.

Yes, but what I am trying to avoid is the download from the internet once I run the SP4 zip file.

i dont understand, when i've downloaded service packs, thats it, you download it once, and install it as many times as you like.

sorry if i'm misunderstanding you, but the full sp4 zip file should still be on your pc somewhere, unless you've deleted it

Colin - it purely depends on which option you pick (or picked) for installing SP4.

The full download where you will have a copy saved is spoken of as the 'network installation'. Filename is W2KSP4_EN.exe, 129Mb, and will be on your PC somewhere under that name.

The 'home' update is only 15Mb but does not put a copy of the SP on the PC.

A suggestion if you have (or intend to download) the full SP4 will be to slipstream (integrate) it into your W2K installation and burn the resulting file to a CD. That way you have 2K /w SP4 on the CD so if you ever need to run sfc (system file checker) to repair damaged files you'll be getting the latest version.

Also a stand-alone copy (should fit on the same CD) to use if you are told to just reapply SP4.

Slipstream instructions are Here. Written for XP but the same process for 2K.
