using US electrical goods in the UK

Hiya,

My boss was in the states and bought a PS-II for her holiday home over there. She then decided to bring it back to the UK but due to the different voltages she cant use it here.

Is there anywhere you can get a converter to allow her to use the US PS-II here in the UK????

Davy - hi Jim here(now exiled in Dublin!)

First, do a quick check to see if the PSU is switchable; some are.

If not, you can pick up a whole new internal power supply for most PC's very cheaply(£15 or so),or check out www.valuelist.co.uk for some really cheap kit.

Only doubt is if IBM use a non-standard footprint or cables(possible). Best to whip the cover off and take out the PSU and take it to your local PC bits shop(I used to use Tait components in Couper St. in Glasgow). IIRC you can get most bits out of a PS2 without any tools, mostly plastic clips and tabs. etc.

Jim.

a lot of modern equiptment is now standard ,check the input voltage ,some go from 110 to 240 after all the output is usually low voltage .

not being able to afford such modern pleasure machines if its a seperate psu (plugtop) then so long as the output is the same (dc) then a uk psu will be ok ,ac is a lot more risky it depends on frequency etc

There may be a few differences - Such as NTSC format for video output/DVD Playback, 60hz frequency, UK game titles not being compatible on that unit etc - so it may not be as straight forward as it seem...... though a trip to the 'barras' may provide better info :)
