In the last week, I have started getting an occasional "flat ping" noise, from my modem.

 

This happens with my sound turned down and doesn,t seem to coincide with any computer operation.

 

Everything seems to be working OK.

Am I safe to just ignore it ? :confused:

Cranfield, there was an article on 'Watchdog' last week where people were getting hugh phone bills because their PC was dialling out to Premium Rate phone numbers without their knowledge. These events happened because whilst surfing the Web, a program had dowloaded itself onto the PC. If your modem is permanently connected to a phone line, and your PC is on, check to make sure there is no activity on the modem when your'e not surfing, as you may be calling out without knowing. (Not trying to use scare tactics, but worth checking out).

Thanks Terry, I have checked the PC activity and I,m reasonably sure that my PC is not having telephone sex, with some Premium Rate number.

Car stereos can be picked up on your pc. You may find that it starts clicking and buzzing to a beat as one of our future deaf population roars past.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.
