Whats my computer doing?

Hi all,

 

I need some help!!!

 

Every now & then when I start the computer, it seems to be downloading far more information than it normally does.

 

This results in everything operating at a slow speed. I've ran AVG, spybot & adware & there is nothing to show. Other times the situation is normal & the speed is fine.

 

Question is, On those occasions when things are being downloaded & everything is running slow, how can I find out exactly what is being put on my computer?

 

I apologise in advance if this is very basic & I should already know how!!!

Do you have automatic updating enabled ?

Norton updates on start up, but always tell you afterwards, as does Microsoft.

 

If you go to Start....Run...and enter "msconfig", that will tell you what is set up to run when you start your PC.

Automatic updating is enabled, but is there anything I can do to find out if that is what is happening when it takes an age to load.

You could try "ctrl alt delete" and look which process(es) are using up most of the CPU time.
