Hi Topcat,

Are you going from your own boat or charter?

Where are you fishing fom?

When I go sharking I only use 30lb. class gear. I have landed Blues to just over the 100lb. mark on this and even bigger Porgies.

Give us a bit more info please.

Dave

TC, assuming you are going shark fishing from a charter boat, a good skipper will have the tackle you require (loan or hire), for catching shark.

Whilst you can catch shark on quite light tackle, its best to have had some experience first.

The normal equipment is quite specialised and it doesn,t make a lot of sense to spend loads of money, for one or two trips a year.

If you have your own boat and are going to start shark fishing full-time , post again. :)

PS: Dave, I didn,t see your reply before I posted, sorry for the duplication.

Not to duplicate the previous posters, just to make a point to all folk looking to dabble in boat fishing for the first time. Get a recomended skipper. He`ll have all the tackle you need. Then just give it a go?

There`s no point in asking what tackle you`ll need. Unless you`ve tried the type of fishing you`ve inquired about and fancy another go with your own gear?

A good quality set-up is going to cost a few hundred pounds. So spend the extra tenner or so on a charter with gear hire included. At least if you don`t like shark fishing, you`ll have only have lost the cost of the tackle hire?

:P Paul. :P

We don`t use J`s anymore!!
