Abu 5501 C3 help

Hi all....I'm stuck....

 

Took an Abu c3 apart to give it a clean (its going to be strapped to a light bass rod).

 

When I slip the spool back into the cage, I cant then fit the side plate (handle side) due to the brake blocks. ( I think)

 

 

What am I doing wrong?

Brake blocks need to be moved inwards before seating the side plate.

 

 

Having said that, does anyone know of a good place to send it for an overhaul?

Just found the diagram Phone thanks. Think I was just thinking to hard about something that's quite simple.

 

Thanks JV I'll pop a message to him, Although I rekon I can do it justice myself, its always nice to have someone more knowledgeable to have a look at it.

Update!

 

Its running smoothly after being dry assembled. New brake blocks fitted too. I'm now thinking about some custom parts and polished internals......

Any good place for tuning bits?

I did, lots of crud was removed, especially around the gearing, most of which looked to be the original grease that had dried up. I don't think this reel has been serviced/stripped/lubricated once since new. The fact that the original Abu tube of lube was in the box tells me a lot lol.

 

I dont think its that old, I'm going to try and find out.

Abu can help you with the age also. Just send them the serial #

 

In the case of your reel you need to tell them if it is a 5501 or 5500

The reason I ask is that it is "possible" to have a "Carpmaster" which is a bastard between a C3 and C4. They are included in the C3 family but do have different gears.
