Ziggy, do you mean you are getting a lot of static noise from the radio, if so turn the squelch button up (or is it down?) until it disappears, it should be silent, if you can't get rid of the horrible noise, it's a duffer. :(

What make is it, someone here might have first hand experience of it.

hi starvin,

its a silva s12

have turned the squelch down, just don't think its got a very big range, i'm 12 miles from the sea, guess thats too far to pick up any transmissions. will take it with me on next beach fish & just leave it on ch16.

would like to know it works before going out.

Starvin.

Excuse me for butting in, but I own the Silver S12 too.

Ziggy, the Squelch settings on the S12 can be a bit finicky.

If your trying to use the radio 12 miles inland, you dont stand much chance.

The range of the radio is about 5 miles on a good day and depending where you are i.e terrain.

As you say, take the S12 to the beach with you next trip.

Ask the coatguard for a radio check, see if your transmitting, and recieving.

Yep......leave on chanel 16 and listen out.

Had trouble with mine, and its now met with an awfull death :D:D

Good luck.

YY :)
