Slime Balls

Went to a mark last night that had been remodeled by some adjacent dredging.

 

First cast and a good bite but it does not feel like a base, up comes my most unfavourite fish a slimey 14" eel which is doing its' best to destroy my two hook flapper trace.

 

A sheet of newspaper eased the unhooking and he was returned, straightened out the trace and recast.

 

Bang bang and the second slime ball was hooked, four eels and one small flounder later I decided the remodeling had not favoured a decent bass, cleaned up and returned home.

Whats wrong with catching snotties.

They need very little preparation for the pan and taste lubberly.

The first one came in looking like a punctured football all neatly wrapped up in my flapper trace, took twenty minutes to sort out in the dark, possibly lost that double figure bass during that time

Maybe you should have a few spare clip on rigs ready.

If you read about eels, you will discover just what a fantastic creature they are. They overcome tremendous odds to survive, travel thousands of miles, and don't deserve to be called slime balls.

I understand your views Mike you are quite right and that is why I always return them alive.

 

However when they appear in plague numbers snapping up every bait you cast, covering you with a liberal coating of slime whilst being released the nick name is very apt.

 

I'm off for a bit of daylight fishing as the tides are perfect once again and there will be no eels

i read the other day that a 1lb eel is at least 10 years old and a 2lb eel is between 15-20 years old

 

and u think bass are slow growing
