just lay it on the unhooking mat with an identifiable sized thing ,unless you mean trophy shots in that case get a person to take it for you ,you can get a trophy shot of anything and substitute your own face it has no creedence today

if you insist then set up your camera pointing at the spot your going to be in and run the timer etc

danny,

due to me being a studen and my mates having jobs, I have also had to take pics when fishing alone. Gardener tackle do a bankstick adapter that fits both cameras and video cameras. it costs £2.99

the other thing worth mentioning is the camera of choice. I use an olympus that has a remote control, it cost around £120 but my mate bought a cheaper model for around £50 and bought the remote seperately.

Personally I don't bother with a camera, rather get the fish back in the water as soon as possible.

But here's the easy way. You need either a camera tripod, or a bank stick with an adapter for a camera. You then need one more bank stick, which you put just behind where you intend to kneel whilst holding your prize fish. You can use a camera with a self timer but personally I would use an extension type release, either a squeezy type air blowing affair, or an electronic extension. The advantage being that you can trigger the camera when you are ready rather than having to wait for it to fire itself. In an ideal world, whilst at home, find out just how far the camera needs to be away from you so as to include head and knees. Measure that difference, and set your bank sticks out at that distance when you are on the bank. Easy really!

Its a means of triggering a camera from where you are kneeling. Nip into Jessops, or similar, and explain that you want to take self portraits from about 15 feet away. You plug the device into the camera, make sure that you have wound on the film, grab your fish, hold the release in the palm of your hand so the camera can't see it, look at the camera lens, think of your girl friend, that should create a twinkle in your eye and a wicked smile, and press the shutter release! Nothing worse than miserable gits holding fish.

You would need to ask if it would fit your camera.
