Shocked

My first guess would be so called kids that haven't got a clue what there doing.

My second guess would be kids again but getting their sick kicks by mutilating this poor fish.

My third gues is that perhaps like mentioned it's a very badly managed commercial Carp fishery that should sort their stocks lives out before grabbing the money.

If it's a commercial carp fishery that holds regular matches, don't automatically blame the kids.

Many commercial fisheries hold battered and mutilated fish, in many cases this is down to out and out match fishing unfortunately.

I have witnessed many matches where anglers have the fish feeding up in the water. Often the angler can and does catch fish with unbaited hooks. The fish are hooked i the mouth, in the fins, body, in fact anywhere.

What is the aim of match fishing?

To catch as large a weight of fish in a set time. Careful fish handling gets put on the back shelf in matches. Many fish are dragged in, unhooked rapidly then thrown into a keep net. Is it any wonder commercial carp look a bit ragged when caught?

Saying that, the weigh in after the match often makes me cringe. The net is dragged from the water and generally the fish are tumbled into the weigh sling. I have also seen the weighed fish unceremoniously tipped back into the water as quickly as possible so the next peg can be weighed. Not good fish handling in my book. :(

kids can be a problem but our sport has changed over the years most of us started tddler bashing our local canal river or ponds . nowadays you walk into a tackle shop see an array of 3lbs carp rods buzzers etc and this is what the kids see . They try it a cpl of seasons mostly dont catch much and sure enough a complete carp outfit is up for sale. Shouldnt we be teaching these kids about the craft of fishing rather than just blaming them for there lack of knowledge??? this way fishing might survive into the future at the moment anglers run the risk of becoming an extinct species

everytime i catch a fish i'm lucky when i blank i'm a hopeless angler.

can i just say dont blame the kids sure some kids do cause harm to fish intentianly and some unintentianly (sorry about the spelling) but also some of the older members of our community do aswell as i have witnessed this myself. many of the younger age like me treat the fish with the utmost respect. all we can do as anglers is teach these people to treat the fish with the care and respect that they deserve.

Whenever I go fishing I take my eleven year old son with me, normally we fish the river Lea.

I try to teach him everything I know, all that river craft, angling experience thats locked up somewhere in my head after thirty odd years of fishing.

I do my best to teach him the right and wrong way to do everything to do with fishing and everything to do with nature, to respect life and take care of the fish we all hold so dear.

I don't blame all kids, the kids I see fishing the venues I fish are a good bunch and could teach their mates a thing or two.

To be honest we have had a couple of very bad cases of litter louts on the river, for once no one is pointing the finger at kids but the more mature experienced anglers, those that should know better and should be there for kids to look up to.

Personally I have never fished any of these commercial fisheries, I don't really like the idea of stocking large quantities of Carp to be caught i matches, I find that a bit disturbing, although I do know it's too easy to generalise and I don't want to tar all fisheries with the same brush.

I spent a long time match fishing before all these commercial fisheries took off and to be honest I wished it was back the way it was before.

You guys never cease to amaze me. A brief description of the damage to a fish and many of you immediately KNOW what caused it.

If I read the above correctly, it was just about everything except

- global warming

- barbless hooks

- Tony Blair

I am also very impressed that the fish is still alive and able to take a bait given the damage to it caused by

- barbed hooks

- young anglers

- curved shank hooks

- cormorants

- older anglers

- match anglers

- overstocking

- uncarring fishery owners

- and all the other listed 'causes'

" My choices in life were either to be a piano player in a whore house or a politician. And to tell the truth, there's hardly any difference!" - Harry Truman, 33rd US President
