Help Needed..

Need to make a decision whether to purchase a scope and attachment to use my Olympus C3000z, or buy the Nikon 1.7X adaptor for my Nikon 8800.

Scope and Oly will take good pics and also be good for "spotting" (which I don't do much of) but will not be very "instant" if a bird suddenly appears and I want a pic, specially if the bird is up close.

Nikon is V good for getting that "instant" shot, it has a 10x zoom +4X digital and has Vibration reduction so I can use it handheld for most shots, and most of my pics are taken either while fishing or in the garden, usually within 20 mtrs.

Either option is going to set me back over £350 so I need to get it right.

My gut felling is to go for the 1.7x lens and continue taking pics as I do now ( I assume it will work with the 4x digi), as I don't really want to mess about with tripods etc.

Maybe I have convinced myself :) what do others of you think I should do?

I would go with the Tripod Free option personally. You can be a lot more spontanious being free of a tripod.

A scope will always give you a lot more reach than a long lens, but if most of your pics are from 20 yds or less it's not necessary.

If you want to get into digiscoping a £350 scope is unlikely to produce the results you want. You need ED glass (or the APO or flourite equivalent) otherwise your pics will suffer with chromatic abberation.

Digiscoping is not really a method suitable for quick snapshots.

Here's a couple of sites to look at for more info Den.

Thanks for replies,

John, I have checked those sites out,

Steve, thanks for PM, I have also checked with the Nikon support site (mine of information) and they assure me it will work with all the cameras programs.

I have found that the digi zoom will give very good results up to 2x (aprox 750 mm) so with the convertor I should get the same results but at 1500mm,

Watch this space :)
