Backup Program

can anyone think of a free program that will only backup the changes i'v made to a folder instead of the usual whole folder routine ,i keep one very large folder on a DVD RW for safety reasons ,its the clone of the same folder i use on the PC ,i am always adding or subtracting or changing file names etc on this folder and ofcourse i wish the changes to apply to the DVD version aswell .

the only way i can do this is by manually editing the DVD which is time consuming or just before closing down copy the complete folder over (its 3 gigs so slow to copy) now the command "merge" seems to be a thing of the past how can i do it at the click of an icon

winzip certainly used to do it, I've not tried it for a long time, but I cannot imagine they will have got rid of that feature.

thanks Nick having gone over to Winra i'l find a copy ,i had a look at winra (after you mentioned winzip) and there is an add new files to existing archive but i suspect it wont remove the changed files only add them making the folder grow :o

being lazy it just needs one desktop icon to click and the jobs done etc

yes, it still does.

Create a zip, then when you wish to update use the update (and add) option. Any changed files get updated, any new ones get added. I seem to remember that you can even get it to check predefined locations at predefined times and get an automated backup routine going.

HTH

I like winzip 'cos in essence it's free, whereas from what I remember winrar costs.

Having said that I paid for winzip as it's a crackinglittle programme.

Blimy - I paid for it 10 years ago - I want it free for life!
