Maybe a better project would be to get one of them remote control boats and strap the camera to that to reach those far off readbeds in the lake. Mind you, with that new setup above Den will be able to photograph a snail at 500 yards...I reckon..:)

Tested the new converter out today...must admit to being a bit dissapointed........

Top pic is tripod, remote and 3X with full optical zoom.

Bottom is tripod, remote no converter but camera set with 3X digi zoom.

Both pics sharpened a little bit.

Dave, that's what my wife said the first time she saw it....however, back to the converter :) .... £83.00 inc £10 postage (from the USA)

Rabs, that Kingfisher has a lot to answer for, almost tempted me away from fishing into digiscoping, but I have settled (for the time being ) for this setup. I am well happy with the 8800 but felt the need to get in a bit closer without using the digi zoom.

I also didn't want to carry a load of gear, most of my pics are taken while fishing, one good thing to be said for carping :)

Should convert the full zoom (375mm) to over 1100mm ...................now that IS a big one :):)

Remains to be seen what the quality is like, I got one VERY sharp pic with the flash, so fingers srossed.

Judy, what you got there then old girl???? tell us more,

Den

No one has ever called me "old girl" before :blink:

what i have is a new zoom lens...got it for xmas camera has x3 optical zoom...got a x2.6 lens.... how much zoom have i got alltogether?

Progress report on the "cheap" converter..

Still struggling big time, but I think I am getting somewhere...this in very poor light at 50 feet, hand held..

Very very difficult to focus (using manual) due to poor light, almost ended up making a guess.

At least it shows some signs of sharpness, and with some sun and depth of field, who knows, it may get me some good pics.

Den - have you managed to use your converter on a sunny day yet & if so how are you getting on with it?

I have an Olympus 1.7x teleconverter that I used with good effect on my previous camera & by chance it fits on my new dslr (giving me 765mm 35mm equivalent), but so far the results I've had with it are hopeless, particularly when trying to use it handheld. I think I'm gonna put it away until the brighter weather & when i do use it, make sure I've got my tripod.

Regards

Cliff
