float rod

Used map parabolix for years and rate very highly but in April received a shakey mach3 for birthday.

Never heard a bad word said about them and with good reason.

They are very very good rods and make you wonder why people pay three times as much for other brands.

A good friend of mine got the mach3 15 footer a while ago and it is a great rod for the price (he paid £50 for his brand new out of the shop ! ). I wouldn't say it feels as good as rods of three times the RRP price but it's definatly good value for money. I reckon if I where buying a cheaper rod I would get one of the shaky mach3 rods for sure !

Steve one of my first rods had seats like it, it happened a few times with that so I think I have a complex about it now haha!

After a glass or two of red last night I bit the bullet and bought a JW youngs specimen rod that should be here tomorrow, quite a bargain at £45 with free next day p&p :)

Just got this feeling now that I should buy a new 'pin to complement it..... Need the 16th to hurry up so I can stop spending money!

They sound like a good cheap powerful float rod for chub and barbel, but might be like using a telegraph pole for dace and roach. Let us know how you get on with it.

First impressions are very good, it's fairly light and finished well, can't wait until next Monday now!

Oh Dear...never buy kit after a drink  However you still have time before the 16th to put things right, there was some pointers to some good rods on here, the Young's wasn't one of them I believe, I am afraid in my opinion the blanks are not very good, you might find it a bit sloppy to be of any use.Have a wiggle if it is at least there is ebay. :(

There are more places to ask than on here ;) and it came up quite a few times elsewhere and I found one for a good price. It's very similar to my Maver barbel rod except with an extra foot of length and a tip more suited to float fishing

It is a good price, trouble is it has to be, all across the range the rods have been discounted. I had the Barbel Meat Rod and it was well packaged, even came with a Cordula case, but the blank was not what I would have expected. Too floppy, and I would have felt under gunned with a good Barbel on the other end.

As you will know for trotting on rivers, especially long trotting you will need a 'fast' tip action on the rod, otherwise you won't make contact with the fish. Now specialist trotting rods are a bit thin on the ground, and the aforementioned rods ie the Drennan Tench has the right stuff. It always handles well for me where others I have used are too soft or don't have the backbone,

River float rods are perhaps the most difficult kit to make the right choice on, I hope you have enjoy your new rod and prove me wrong.

I use mine for all species when trotting and they're great for still water fishing also. Imo this rod is one of the best rods drennan have ever produced and where £200 when they where available in the shops many years ago (about 20 I think). Only problem for Viney would be the reel bands rather than a screw down seat. If I didn't have two already i'd be getting this one !
