Tips for painting?

Crispy

Recommended Posts

I got a John Wilson Avon/Quiver system rod for my birthday at the end of last year, which I love but felt a bit undergunned occasionally when larger chub headed for snags. So I added a Shimano Beastmaster (ghastly name!) to my (small) collection.

I am very pleased with this new rod, except for one thing. The tips are painted black except for the last couple of inches, which is orange/red. This is fine and dandy in decent light, but as the gloom gathered yesterday it became invisible to my aging eyes. Is there a paint available that I could apply to the whole tip that won't crack when I get the first bite?

get some fime wet&dry (glass) paper and carefully rub down through the varnish/gloss as far back down the rod as you need too, back to an eye then carefully tape up eyes with masking tape then apply 2 coats of white undercoat /matt paint then two thin white gloss (bright white) coats then a clear lacquer/gloss (hard wareing) top coat.you can use a can of spray paint and/or tin of paint and fine brushes too get into all the tight areas around the eyes.if using spray paint spray some into the lid/jamjar and use a soft artist brush to trim the paint.

i've got the same job to do to my jw avon tip as i snapped it (dropped the holdall doh!) and i'am turning it into a quiver tip ,i'll be giving it a top coat of glow in the dark luminous paint so it'll glow when it starts to get darker in the evenings.

I have the same problem with my Shimano beastmaster and have cosidered painting the rod tips white, but as I normally fish into dark when I'm using it I use those isotope thingy's on the end. I found using two stops you straining your eyes.

Which isotopes do you use? I was just looking at these on-line, and wondering whether they were the solution and if they were any good. How have you attached yours? Do they interfere with the line? Can/do you take them off during the day?

Hi Chris,

I'm not sure on the make but they are the ones that last 8 years. I get them from Johnson Ross's in Hoddesdon. The line does get caught occasionally but I don't find it a problem. They can be put on and taken off easily even when the rod is setup.

Are these the ones?

If so, do you know which size fits the beastmaster?

Chris, they're not the ones. I could'nt find them on their website so I gave them a ring. It turns out that they are the Drennan super specialist ones. They come with 7 different size fittings(2 of each) for different tip diameters and 2 isotopes and cost £7.95 for the packet.

I hope this helps.

Andy

Sorry Ant I did not see your post. They are the one's.
