Solid State Drive

Recommended Posts

I know that I am behind the times but I have just changed out an old HDD in my Daughters equally old Dell workstation for a new Solid Stae Drive (SSD).

The difference it has made is almost beyond words. It is so much faster, it is like having a new computer. As an example, it opens Photoshop in less than 3 seconds.

We paid around £160.00 for a Samsung 500gb.

If anyone is looking to upgrade a flagging old computer, this just might be the best value for money upgrade out there. Go for it

I heartily agree. I made sure my new computer had an SSD. It's made such a difference I'd never now go back to an old-fashioned hard drive.

SSD's are superb, my pc used to take over a minute to boot up, now it takes less than 20 seconds running Windows 7 x64 Ultimate.

Just remember you do not defragment SSD's as it shortens their life.

SSD's are slowly coming down in price and are certainly worth the cash if your not after large amounts of storage.

in most cases running one as a primary OS drive and then shovelling all your software installs, music and photos etc onto a slave drive is the best bet!

most decent drive manufacturers offer a toolset to keep your SSD in tip top condition, Intel and Corsair have software out there is designed to scan your drive and keep it running sweet as a nut; as do other manufacturers.

just keep in mind that they do fail! and when they do they are usually irrecoverable! so backing up important data is more important than ever!
