What actually is a Perinereis Nuntia?

I've just been sent some info from a company that sells them from abroad, and the pic would indicate it's like a ragworm.

Hi Elton,

Perinereis is a ragworm, although P. nuntia is not a species indigenous to the UK, we do have P cultrifera.

Perinereis species all come from the nereididae family, which are generally rag worm, apart from the white ragworm (which are not true ragworm more commonly called catworm). White rag are from the family Nephtyidae.

FYI;

King ragworm; (Nereis virens)

Harbour ragworm (or maddies); (Hediste diversicolor, although it was formerly known as Nereis diversicolor)

White ragworm (snakes); (Nephtys caeca)

Smaller white ragworm; (a mixture of Nephtys hombergii, Nephtys longosetosa, Nephtys cirrosa, Nephtys caeca (juveniles) and occasionally Nephtys assimilis.

There are probably about 16 species of true ragworm in the UK and about 8 species of white ragworm (catworm).

cheers
