I have ordered from here before with no problems.

Ordered one from here :D . I will let you all know how I get on when it arrives.

Now who can I get to service my old 9000C?

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Keep us informed, I'm sure you won't be disappointed. As to your reel, isn't there a 'Reel Doctor' bloke in the UK that will service reels by mail? Others should know about him. A good tackle store should be able to do it too. If you're at all mechanically minded and have the schematics you could do it yourself. I do all mine and I'm no engineer.

I fancy taking up shore fishing again, but on close inspection my old ABU beachcaster is in dire need of a rebuild and I suspect that by the time it hade new rings and a re-varnish I would be just as well off with a new rod.

Can anybody suggest a sub £50 quid beachcaster? I would be using it with my Abu 9000c reel.

I reckon you should go with a rebuild. The older ABU Beach rods were brilliant for delivering a weight a long way without the need for tons of compression. You are also used to the "feel" of the rod. Some new rings and a bit of loving care may do the rod the world of good.

See how much it costs. You might just end up with a rod more functional than any of the "broom handles" available these days for less than 50 quid.

Well I bit the bullet and bought an Odessa. It does look a bit thick at the tip compared to my old Abu rod, but I will withhold judgement until I have a go with it.

I may just decide to get some new rings and a lacquer job on my old ABU rod. Does anyone have a favourite rod builder they could recommend?
