Bass fishing Luce Bay 01Sept2008

Snatcher

Recommended Posts

Well the day had not started out too well.Todays tides were really big so I had fancied trying my hand at "snicking" a lobster or crab in front of the Clash site,I had watched a guy the previous night get out 2 lobsters within minutes. There must be an art/skill to it which I definately lacked. After an hour scratching about I finished up with no lobsters/crabs and my chesties full of waterl.

Oh well, plan B,go bassing at hw which was approx 13.30. I called in to see my bass sensai in Drummore "Freddie the bass". He said that he had done poorly on the bass front this year and still had not tried out the "Storm Sandeels" that I had given him. Left Freddies promising his good lady a bass if I got one.

A short drive had me at one my bass marks and I rigged up with the bubble float/"Storm Sandeel combo that had worked for me last week.Well on the third or fourth retrieve the rod thumped over and I was into a decent bass,it even took some line on its first run. I played it carefully and in a few minutes had it on the bank. It was a fish of about 3lbs and it was duly dispatched and put into my bag. I work on the principle that I will not keep more than one bass per session and will not keep any bass bigger than 5lbs. I fished on purely for sport. As it happened I had no more takes in the next hour and packed in when the tide started ebbing.

I drove back to Freddies and gave the bass to Margaret for which I got a big hug. Freddie had been out fishing to another mark and had blanked there. Manxman was also out bassing and he had had a super bass session on the popper, the biggest went to 7.5 lbs. All fish were returned and John only took one scale from each fish for research purposes. I seen the photos and they were all super bass. The location will go to the grave with John and I for obvious reasons.

Oh well, might just have to go out bassing again tomorrow - luxury

Great report John and lovely pics. you are fast becoming a bass expert. Leave one for me next week as I have yet to catch a MOG bass. Roll on next week when I hope to meet up with Freddie and yourself. :D

Safety habits last a lifetime.
