Red Mullet record. Boat - 3Lb 7oz, shore 3lb 15oz.

Are they rare? In recent years yes. But as I caught one out of Weymouth last summer, they may be coming back?

We don`t use J`s anymore!!

The biggest single confusion over this species is the fact that red mullet (Mullus surmuletus) is also known as the striped red mullet, although the colouration can vary.....

There is also the plain red mullet (M.barbatus) (which may or may not be a seperate species - anyone know if they have been DNA profiled yet??) found at 100 to 300 meters, highly unlikely to be caught due to depth and its normal geographical range --- red forms of Mullus surmuletus are often mis-identified as this species....
