Yakity,

Are you off to the Beaulieu Boat Jumble this year, they have some great gear at silly prices, Karcher pressure cleaners £30 direct from Karcher!...dragged the wife and children down there for the last 2 years... it's a great place for ideas, think it's on in April...oh and you get entry to the car museum and house included in the entry price.

Best bit is seeing the yachties stuggling to get all the gear they bought into their volvo's. :D

Drift Chutes should be fine on the sea, the problems begin in fast running water or a fast running tide like we get around Chichester and Langstone harbours, out on the main sea front there shouldn't be a problem.

You also need to use the correct size.

You would have similar issues near Sandbanks I suspect, mind you having watched the water rushing out past the ferry I'm b@$%%£$d if I would kayak around that bit of water. :D

Poole Harbour entrance is something I've been thinking about.. if fishing the West side of the harbour do I put yak on car and go over ferry or paddle across taking a 'detour' near Brownsea Island.. only till I get out will I get a feel for things & know if Brownsea route is doable.. should be if my route if far enough away from the entrance.

Have a word with the local boat fishing club, they should be able to give you some pointers, just stay well clear of the main shipping channel and the idjuts on their jet ski's. :)

Oh Bu**er,

Just lost what I typed  :D

Here we go again.

Re the drift chutes Marv.

I tried one last season, and found it to be a blinkin pain in the ar*e.

Hard work in a Kayak , you spend more time messing about than you do fishing.

But thats just me , you may find them ok. I hope you do.

Im hopeing that now Ive fitted the rod pods to the crate , Ill be able to control the drift with the paddle , not the speed , but direction.

Re the leashes Marv, I bought them from my local dive store, they are very well made.

Need one for the radio now , although it floats and is waterproof to 5mtrs , Im not taking that chance.

Sorry to hear your having trouble with the shoulder.

Have you thought of making a webbing strap for the p.f.d.?

Over the shoulder jod , like a dry suit zip string.

May help to pull it off.?

You realy should be more careful at YOUR AGE :D:P

YY:)

The Chutes I've been looking at are designed specifically for kayaks, available in 18-24 inches depending on the size of yak.

Trouble with the PFD is that it's a bugger to get on at the best of times, nearly had to drive home in it last time out, couldn't get it off, it stuck to the neoprene on my smoothskit wetsuit...I must have looked like a dog with one of those plastic funnels on, walking backwards wriggling and scratching. :D

That's the one I'm on about, it has a ring in the tip so that you can pull it inside out on retrieval.

Thanks for the pics Yakity, I'll put them to good use.

Got to go catch my train...still at work!
