Thats a shame Darnsarf. When I fish that area I tend to launch from the cutbridge behind the shingle bank. As its a private slipway at Keyhaven do you have to pay to launch there; is there a public one there too?
If you had to pay I'm sure Darnsarf bieng the proud yorkshire man he is would refuse to launch there :D I launched there before with him and we never paid.I never pay at mudeford quay too ,I thought that fees only applied to motor powered vessels---silly me :wallbash:

Hi, If your at calshot and have the tower behined you and the isle of wigit to your right look ahead and you will see solent breese on the far shore (thats where id go in from) about a 100-200 yards from the shore you will be in about 10-15 feet of water.

for th smoothies i used ragworm here most times or the smallest hermit you can find, some of the fish can be big here and will give you a run for your money, over on blackjack (red bouy)you can pick up your mackeral but only on a in comming tide. and if you go towards greenlands or reach (green bouys) you can pick up some good size pout and whitting and bass.

Dont fish anywhere behined calshot as its a protected area for bass and you will be stopped.

if you want to pm me i`ll give you a few good places to fish up by the docks.

Tony

So far been ok. It is in theory a pay as you go but to date they just tend to look on in amusement followed by wow. Mind you I don't unload on the slip. I trolley it around from the car park. Try to keep the YC members sweet lots of chat help recover some gear dropped in the water before now. Usual PR stuff.

Fished since 2003, the rest of my life I just wasted.

Damn, missed that one! :wallbash:

Mind you it was only some dropped fenders.

But it does mean that as a Yorkshireman I failed, I hang my head in shame. :P:lol:

Fished Lepe tonight with Zzippy. Arrived mid afternoon to collect bait.. bit thin on ground but after a while we had enough ragworm for the session. Met up with Mike (nice to meet you) who was coming back in shortly before we launched (he had been catching bream all afternoon which took all his bait). We drifted around the Beaulieu river entrance for a while - the incoming tide brought lots of weed making it pretty unfishable around the deeper channel areas. Fortunately we were pestered with bream only till darkness and we had enough bait left for the best part of the tide and night.

Due to weed, rate of drift and lack of bites over the deeper channel areas we moved closer inshore to fish near Lepe. The fishing got better here and we both caught school bass and silver eel (my dry suit is slimed - yuk); I also picked up a flounder a good pound or so which fought like a demon... flounder make good sport from the kayak and I look forward to catching more.

We didn't get any big hitters tonight; no steaming runs from double figure smoothound, bass or stingray but we can dream on  - I'm sure we'll fish there again.

Thanks for that SandPiper. Behind Calshot can be quite be good for flounder I think we can fish there but not intentionally target the bass (eg no sandeels) - unless I'm mistaken?

Yes you are right but its that pestie police man that give you grief and the fishries people, by the way sandeel is part of the flounders diet,if you do pick up a bass there just put it back then nothing much can be said.

Right then ive had more than a few pm`s about the docks, peronaly this is what ive done for years.

Follow the docks around towards totton, with the armybase on your left, half way along the dock wall you will see a pontoon with four green lights thats where they unload the cars from to the left and right at low tide there is holes and i mean big holes in the walls, flick a live pout in there you wont have to wait long for a bass, the biggest ive had from there is 10lb but the average is about 5-6lbs.

Next the civic centre and other places have hot water pumped around their offices, and where it gets pumped out is, if you keep going roung towards totton right on the corner where the cranes are, i took my mate there last years and between us we had about 30 or so mullet. i dont know whats on the bottom feeding as we couldnt get a weight to get down there the forse of the water was to powerfull mind you you will be 80-100 feet of water.

one thing to look out for is the tugs the wash hit you first then it comes back of the wall.
