Maintaining stocks by using slot limits is the way to go. Releasing the small fish and the large breeding females ensures a sustainable fishery for the future.

Releasing fish in deep water can be a problem but it can be done using a release weight.

 

A release weight on a line might be unweildy on a party boat but there's no reason why you couldn't make a simple and cheap disposable version from concrete and help the big fish get back to the bottom that way.

Deep water? I couldnt get over it, if you can see the sounder, were in 470' of water 50 yards offshore!!!
