What Reels!

Hi boys

I have discovered the beauty of sea centrepin reels and boy have I got a beauty! The pic below is a Allcocks commodore, a 1960's / 70's reel and its a MONSTER

It weighs a ton and flies in the face of sensibility when it comes to yak fishing because of its weight and 1:1 ratio!. However I have used it in preference of all my other reels and I think it is a wonderful reel to use. You can feel every knock and bang that the fish transmits and there is no cranking / jamming feeling that you can sometimes get on multipliers with a big fish on!.

I started using one when I saw a pic of somebody (on here I think) using a large wooden centrepin (just bought one off ebay, 7" wooden for £5.99) and thats it I am hooked (awww sorry for that) Groan

Anybody else use / like em?

regards

I must go down to the sea again

To the lonely sea and sky

I left my shoes and socks there

I wonder if they're dry?

OMG!! Didn't realise they still did centre pins :yeah: Cheers SM thats amazing :)

I think it is a whole different experience in fishing with these things. I just received an old bakelite scarborough type (7" another brag!) that I was going to try to convert into a anchor reel, but fell in love with it when it arrived  I spun it while on the rod and it just kept on going, beautiful engineering and you can feel every knock the fish does because there is no gearing!.

I remember being given one (oohh er misses) by the skipper of a charter boat in North Wales when fishing with my dad. I was dissapointed until I hit into a skate and it came up lovely from the depths :)

I have ditched my expensive multiplier in preference to the centrepin just because it feels "right" can't explain it really, must be havin a mid-life crisis ha ha  Cheers........
