My grandfather was born in 1858. My father was born in 1889.

I grew up hearing stories about fishing off chesil beach but, I can't remember large catches of cod being mentioned. Huge Skate, yes!

It was the 60s when people started talking about cod being caught off the beach, many up over 30lb.

Down here, cod seem to come and go in cycles. You get loads of small ones turn up one year and they gradually get bigger and bigger and fewer and fewer for a few years until it all starts over again.

My father served on mtb boats during the war i remember him telling me when on duty in the channel and biscay, if cooky asked for some fresh cod for him to serve up for grub they accidently ;) let off a depth charge and up popped large cod every where, if you done that today you might get a few whiting i suppose????
