What is your Top 3 choice of Kayaks for fishing in order of preference .. ?

So hopefully as the thread progresses we can possibly see a good top 3 emerge and hopefully a Winning kayak ... If you have only paddled 1 then just put 1 ...

Mine is ....

1) Wilderness Tarpon 120

2) Prowler 13

3) No third entry as yet

Hi Volusian- Welcome...

For Paddling/Angling enjoyment, my vote (for what it is worth) is......

Scupper Pro TW - First Choice (1)

Prowler 13 - Second Choice (2)

RTM Mambo - Third Choice (3)

But it's very much horses for courses........

Scupper Pro is the 'Steeple Chaser'

Prowler 13 is the 'Hunter'

RTM Mambo/Ocean Frenzy is 'a good solid hack'

Given a choice between a ride or no ride the choice is simple.... no, not a bl--ding Jet Ski!

* OK Prowler 13 (Sunrise)

* OK Scupper Pro TW (Mango Flame)

I have just seen where you are from - that East coast requires a kayak that is paddling orientated, or you will be severly hampered.

You don't need as much gear as you see many kayaks carrying - as GB, he has no fishfinder and catches plenty using the old fashioned way of knowing his ground!

Funny you putting the Tarpon 120 top of the list - why? out of interest. You are a big chap, so why a short kayak that won't paddle well? There must be another reason that you haven't let us know about.

What type of fishig are you going to be doing? If you are a fly only fisherman then you have even less gear to carry. Likewise for lure fishing. If you are going to be usig 2 foot long baits for cod of Whitby etc then you need somewhere to keep your bait handy......

Hi Simon

I think that the intention was to put Kayaks in ranking order of 'those you have paddled'.......there are no Pelicans of Dorados on my list is because I have not paddled them yet! (the list of yaks that I have paddled is obviously very short).

(At least I think that that is what Volusian intended).

Moonyak - who mentioned either of those? I don't see them on anyone's list.......! I purposely avoided mentioning them and merely asked why a short kayak on his list for preference.

Not having a go. But I find it interesting that the shortest one is top of his list and wondered what the reason was - must be something.

Of course, you are right about the kayaks you mention....ask GB, or anyone who has been in one! Of the poly yaks the longer, slimmer ones are far superior - both in seakeeping and stability. Room for adding clutter is still suficient.

My choice then:

Dorado (obviously!)

Scupper Pro

Prowler Elite
