My hard drive has stopped working, well my laptop can't open it.

Was working fine??

Just getting the corrupt file message now.

Looked at properties and it's saying RAW, I'm sure it was NTFS before?

Any clues please?

Cheers.

?

Have you tried running CHKDSK on it? Being displayed as a RAW device is not good news, I reckon any data on the drive has been lost and that it will at least need to be reformatted.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.

Open up my computer.

Right Click on offending drive

click on properties

click on tools tab

click on error checking

check both options

automatically fix file systems errors

scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors

click start.

If the system complains that the device is in use and will be ckecked on next re-boot then agree and reboot.

Let me know how you get on

Try this click on start/run/type in cmd in the open box and click ok.

When you get the dos box up type in chkdsk d: /f /r

replace d: with whatever your drive label is. If it says it will need a reboot say yes and reboot.
