FF, To be honest, its something I would not even comprehend... ..you will almost for sure come to a sticky end.. :( ...the wind can blow up in an instant.....and you will only have a pair of flippers to get back ashore..against currents etc etc.....how many swimmers have been pushed out to sea....taken away with the currents.... :headhurt:

To my mind, it would be much like fishing off a Lilo...where would you put your Flares, radio, anchor etc etc .... ..not to be advised....Now, your Kayak, totally different.... :D much better idea mate....

I was considering float tubing close to the shore. Obviously its not a good idea when theres a strong wind blowing offshore, but has anyone tried it, or is it a bad idea? I was thinking of fly fishing from it.

It would very much depend on the circumstances.

How well do you know the area, tidal flows currents etc.

Weather conditions

Type of float tube and fins

personal safety eqipment, lifejacket etc.

Radio / communications / flares

If all this is OK then no problem in principal. In the States they go halibut fishing from tubes.

Have a look at this site for some ideas

I fish some very large Scottish Lochs and would have no problem going a short distance out to Sea in the right circumstances.

Hiya, Yep, done some Float Tubing.. on Swanswater, the Oich, Tay, Earn.......great way to fish ,in its place, but IMHO it aint for sea angling.....you dont have wave action, currents etc etc anything like on a freshwater loch, no matter the size of it....and, you wont end up in Norway if it all goes tits up !!!!

Just my opinion...... :D

Have a great new year.... :sun:
