Vale Alan Brown

I just heard a few minutes ago that Alan Brown of Hitchin died last night. While not many people will have heard of Alan I am sure that many of those who have will know that he was one of the best anglers England has ever produced. Indeed, for many years I have maintained that he was the best angler I have ever fished with - and I have fished with some extremely good anglers, including Dick Walker and FJT. He was also a good friend and a great fishing buddy. I have so many lovely memories of our chub/carp/bream/eel/tench sessions together I will always be grateful for the fact that we became such good friends. His demise is a loss I feel deeply and I offer my sincere condolences and best wishes to his family and other friends.

Sad news indeed. I never had the pleasure of meeting Alan but knew of him both because of his catches and his rod-building.

If Chevin rated him so highly as an angler, that's high praise indeed.

RIP, Alan.

I used to pop into his shop quite a lot when I lived in Letchworth, not as often when I moved into Hitchin though (where I still live). That is sad news and I know he was very highly regarded as an angler, and always came across as helpful and knowledgeable whenever I dealt with him.

Chevin,

That is sad news.

I knew Alan, although not that well, and fished alongside him at Grafham on many occasions. A really good angler as well as a gentleman.

His rods were among the first specialist rods to hit the specimen scene.

I still have a pair of trout rods with his name on them.

I also offer my condolences to his family and friends.

Colin
