what do people use?

I had scotty rod holders up front on my old yak (like RICHI has) but being a short arse I had trouble reaching them and putting in / taking out the rods resulting in missed bites :(

GB has his flush mounts facing forwards on his tarpon which is a simple effective idea

TPW has put flush mount on the side of his kayak > pukka also but too scary for me to do :(

what other option do I have?

Only need one rod holder i think as I like to hold one rod most of the time but 2 might be handy

What do other people do?

Have you thought about using a johnny bar Stu? I am considering 1 for the Pelly to save making big holes in her cockpit area.

1 on the lure is worth 2 from the bait.

I did consider making something similar

more of a rod rest than holder if you know what i mean?

not sure where I would put the butts of the rod though?

Cant you just have the rod holders installed at a distance for trolling or whatever and also have a rod holder base installed closer to you (so there are four positions you can use) so you can just move the rod holder when you need to.

dont particularly want to drill 4 big holes into my new yak :(

just want something easy to use and simple.

most stuff just gets in the way

perhaps a horizontal tube up front with rod rest ''V''s on where rods can be placed

not sure if a johnny bar can withstand too much pressure

Have you seen my tee bar Stu, the one I made from pvc with the breakaway v rest's. See if I have a pic somewhere.

The Bic anglers seat, very comfy, has two rod holders , one each side at the rear of the seat. They hold the rods upright, so good for trolling. The seat has long adjustable fore and aft fixing straps, with snap on hooks, so might fit other kayaks other than Bics. The rod holders are strong thick fabric tubes running the height of the seat back, the butt fits a treat. There is also a netting pocket on the rear of the seat, in between the rod holders.

About £35.

Wish i'd thought of that

Hey GB would you recommend that as an effective solution. those scottys look like they could get in the way, and i dont have enough room for a jony bar

My flushmounts are behind me and angled about 45 degrees. It works for me but I would try them dry fit before you drill the holes for the screw's. You have to make sure the rods dont intrude into your paddling arc if you intend to troll with them. I dont use them for trolling normally but if I do I tend to be using livebait which means I am using my canoe paddle.

The rods are easier to get in and out when they are angled forward and when facing forward on anchor the tips should be in eye view.

Excuse the ruffian in the cockpit.
