No Scales

Caught a mackerel from West Bexington & stuck it in the freezer for about 10 days.

When I got it out to prepare it I noticed that there were no scales on it!

Handy as it's one less job to do, but now (after I've eaten it) I'm wondering if it means it had scabies & now I'm gonna get the clap ??

Maybe there's a natural reason for it ?

Seems a little odd ...

I never bother scaling mackeral as the scales are so small and fine they don't feature in the prep. process. I would only bother scaling a fish that has coarse scales (Bass, bream) and you are not going to skin anyway (cod, pollack) or leave the skin on the plate (plaice, mackeral). If you can skin afillet it saves a lot of scaling. BTW has anyone noticed that after scaling a fish, loose scales turn up in the strangest places for the next week?
