if you picture it in your mind a bass feeding in a fast tide will know how fast it has to paddle its tail to maintian a stationary position enabaling it to ambush any passing prey, during this waiting time for prey to float past it will be looking at everything else and assessing it as it floats by so if something suddenley speeds by it at a much faster rate of knots it only has two options eat or carry on waiting and as it is already using vast ammounts of energy maintaining its strike possition it will probably take the later of the two, as for the cloudy water problem if the bass is on the sea bed it will not nessercerely be feeding there but using the stired up sand to hide its self from fish/prey floating higher up this makes sense to me as looking up thru the water everything creates a black silouet against the sky (this is why so many lures designed for drift fishing are black) so try bringing your bait off the bottom a few turns when the water is murky it may bring a few more fish to the net

good point elton, after all it must have been a very active mind that decided to whip the arse feathers out of his beloved pet bird and stick them onto a hook ! i wonder if the bloke who actually invented the fly was of sound mind in reflection? we are a strange breed us anglers those of us that do think out of the box and try something against the grain are so reluctant to share our successes its almost as if there was only one fish left in the sea! i have been on boat trips were blokes have seen others around them struggle all day and not offer any advice or share there tactics understandable in a compition but not among a group of friends on a jolly. so come on tell us all if your doing something new and different instead of being the shy smarmy bloke with all the fish you could be a fammed hero. ps; steve now you have improved your technique is that offer still open to join you LOL

my mate chunky caught it on worm and squid it was hooked fairly in the mouth which is strange for a plankton eater after a quick wieghing 47lbs was returned to float off down the channel we saw at least 5 more that day all of which were bigger than this one, the biggest the skipper estimated at around 65lb does anyone know how big they actually grow??

i cant belive that the ludricus fine of fishing inside the designated zone (in this case 12miles)is a mere £5000 is this meagre sum going to deter any of these companies I THINK NOT as for interfearing with satalite systems and the like did they really think defra wouldnt be watching with all the bad press over the past 5 years defra is just icthing to prove itself to the public , in this case i have no sympathy with the skippers or their bosses TUFF LUCK

most south coast wrecks are the home to pollack over the winter period best time is mid december to early april for these ,the cod move onto inshore reefs to get lucky

a mate of mine just came back today from 2 days in CI with kevin(dallora) they were cut short by 1 day due to weather closing in so they fished the banks yesterday morning then went back for there gear and fished the wrecks on the way home untill it got too lumpy they did fish the same bit of ground as we should be fishing on sat and had quite a few cod and pollock to 18lb also a 24lb ling so with a bit of luck should produce the goods for us fingers crossed

ive eaten wrasse and it has agood taste but its a lot of prep involved they are packed full of bones and not to much eadable flesh. however the gurnard are terrible if anyone catches one dont bother trying to fillet it just send it in chilled post to me i can dispose of it for you hehe

hi ben. your best bet is to take a small selection of pike lures and seek the advice of local tackle shops when you get to your destination, dont forget to put in a couple of chubber floats you should at least pick off a few makeral maybe even bass! as for the mullet its a waiting game that takes a bit more skill,but you never know beginners luck maybe with you. let us know how you get on good luck!

paul you will be fine as they get to 50ft from the boat just start to tell one of your tope cacthing stories and the fish will just give up fighting. lol
