Anglers net attack?

Over the last week or so whenever I've tried to log onto AN I've been getting some strange page emploring me to do all sorts of dodgy looking things to my computer. I've resisted the temptation assuming it to be a hackers prank, but am I alone or has everyone had this for the last few days?

Some people attract that sort of call, Tim. Suspect some smutty site has set cookies on your errrrrrrr, nudge nudge surfing!

Tim - it could be a residual effect of the recent changes in the location of AnglersNet. Various folks have had a variety of strange happenings based on how their ISP handled the updated internet records they have.

 

Try dumping all your existing cookies and temp internet files. If you continue to have issues after that, post back.

It was odd because it had the AN heading but the body of the page had all these instructions about what to do in windows, including adding files with "anglersnet" included in the file name. Have tried what you suggested Newt.

 

Peter - I can't imagine what you're on about. My optician says the diminishing eyesite is a natural part of the aging process....

sounds to me like a browser highjack, go to google, find "Highjackthis" read the instructions because there are things if you remove it could bugger something up, tell you what download the program, get a log from it and post the log here and i or someone else might beable to tell you wich ones to remove.

 

other preventative measures,

 

clear cookies

clear temporary internet files

clear cache

download highjackthis, get log post here and wait for some more info on it

download spybot search and destroy

update spy bot

run scan

get rid of the nasties it finds

hit immunize

get firefox if you havnt already

think about *Cough* Purchising SpySweeper

got anti virus ? no, think about AVG Free or my favorite, Nod32

Sounds to me like you accessed the old server which, I believe, has instructions on how to update your PC's dns entries to bring you to this one.

 

Best to copy and paste them if it happens again.

Its for those of you that visit the old server where your ISP hasn`t updated its cache so that you`re able to visit here.

 

Everything described on that page is safe to do as long as you follow the instructions properly
