Off to Weymouth tomorrow for the weekend, hope to get some pier fishing in, taking a couple of carp rods/reels, any tips on where to go, baits rigs etc. Are there Mackeral about yet, or is it a bit early?

Try on the south side of the Stone Pier as the sun comes up, live prawn for bait close in, but stay quiet.

On a rising tide in the evening, try livebaiting with smelt around the rocks at the bottom of the Nothe Fort.

Loony?

You`ve got mail. If you want bass fishing from a boat then forget it. There are a few spaces left on local boats, but nearly all will be wrecking because of the tides.

As previously stated, pleasure pier, stone pier, Chesill cove, or abbotsbury for mackeral, maybe early gars, small pollack still about. Any of these locations `Might` give up a bass. But don`t put money on it!! Too early.

Weymouth Angling Centre can give you last minute info on spaces, or try `The Sailors Return` pub. Most of the local skippers can be found in there after 5.30pm.

Loony, if the weather isn't bad have a trip to Portland Bill. Had some fun float fishing off the rocks there a couple of years ago.

Spent a VERY frustrating afternoon trying for the mullet in West Bay, they are right little buggers arent they? I can see how you can get addicted to catching them, or rather trying to catch them!

No I didnt catch one.

The water in West Bay harbour would not be as warm as early in the year as that in Weymouth harbour, perhaps.

I've only ever been there about 3 times in my life.

Loony.

So you`ve tried to catch a mullet? Weymouth harbour is packed with them. But as you`ve found, they`re very shy biters?

Wait until you hook a nice one. Then you`ll know why some folks specialise in fishing for them.
