Hi there,

Just been having a conversation with my wife Janet who tells me that her cousin who owns some land near Tenterden as experienced woodpeckers taking young from songbird nests.I have never heard of this before, as anyone else information on this activity.

Thanks,

Richard

Fishing seems to be my favorite form of loafing.

I know the joy of fishes in the river through my own joy, as I go walking along the same river.

What do you think if the float does not dip, try again I think.

Our commonest woodpecker, the Great spotted will visit garden birdfeeders although it is quite shy and easily disturbed. Although an interesting sight in the garden, it will however attack nest boxes and eat young birds.

I have been Hunting, shooting and fishing for over 35 years and i had never heard of that before, still if you learn something new each day it cannot be bad, especially at my time of life. :clap2:

I remember being a bit shocked when I first saw evidence of deer crunching up the young of ground-nesting birds. I was told that the deer had an instinctive need for extra calcium for growing their antlers, and that the bones of the nestlings were a useful and available source. Very resourceful, Nature...

I am not sure about Green Woodpeckers or Lesser Spotted Woodpeckers but the Great Spotted Woodpeckers are known for taking the eggs and young of other nesting birds. Blue Tits and Great Tits are a particular favourite.

The problem isn't what people don't know, it's what they know that just ain't so.
