can you use a carp rod for pear fishing

Am I going to regret this?

What's "pear fishing"?

John.

Angling is more than just catching fish, if it wasn't it would just be called 'catching'......... John

whats wrong with it? i use a landing net handle for killing wasps ,a rod would be ok for dislodging pears but only to about 13ft with a carp rod ,for those high up fruits i suggest a match rod or telescopic roach pole with a hook whipped to it (why telecopic ;) )

if you meant pier then yes with the obvias restrictions ,its a freshwater rod and the rings and metal fittings probably will get corroded quickly (a good wash after use stops most of that) there not built to drag fish up the side (use a drop net to land almost everything) and unless built like a poker dont enjoy hurling weights and a mass of bait to the horizon with heavy line etc.used with ths in mind they can be used for fishing close in with a few onces of weight or a large float or spinning.

if its for pike then all the above bar the first and second.

i have had lots of fun in the past using carp rods off the pier especially at night close in.just rest the rod on an old towel to stop it getting marked.

dont forget the reel this needs looking after very carefully as the internals are not sea water resistant and sand causes lots of problems (sea reals are more robust) but a good wash also will at least slow corrosion a strip down is far better .

Carp rods are fine for pier fishing, as long as you aren't fishing for Cod, Congers etc.

If you're fishing for Mackerel, Doggies, Flatties, Saithe/Pollack, Wrasse, Mullet and suchlike, you'll be OK. Just make sure you give your gear a good wash in freshwater immediately afterwards. Make sure your reel gets a good rinse and lubricate it thoroughly. Check the line for abrasion too.
