in a lake of mostly 5lbers a 6lber is a specimen ,it not size its rarity in that particular water applies to all fish.

a 20lber in a lake stuffed with 40's is probably not even noticed or even scorned.

Chesters is probably right! I guess it depends on so many factors! I have my own list of targets if you like some are above my pbs others are below, for instance my pb chub was caught "accidentally" whilst fishing carp so my target weight is actually lower than my pb!

Tench: I'd like to get an 8 dream about a 10!

Perch: 3lb

Chub: 5lbs

Barbel: any thames barbel

Carp: any thames carp

Oh yes and a bream from Wingham

OI OI,

Well all i can say is a specimen to me is one bigger than my last P.B. but i know where your comming from & i agree to me it would be 20+ because my P.B. is only 16 1/2 lbbut when i caught it THAT was a specimen, if that makes any sense to you. ( it does me )

I agree Specimen fish should be based on what the lake holds. My PB for Carp is 18.02lb caught many years ago. In most peoples book this may not be a specimen, but I am proud of it. Don't worry what other people rate as a specimen fish.

Set your self goals that are achievable for the waters you fish, then you can enjoy beating them. If I used the standard 20lb + carp target, I may not have been excited about all the low doubles I have caught.

One mans specimen is just another's run of the mill catch.

Hopefully one day that 20lb will come along.

Stephen

Isn't it something that goes in one of those little screw top bottles that you give the nurse :unsure::headhurt:

I'll leave

PS

It is what you want it to be, if I caught a 5lb barbel that was perfect in every detail, that to me would be a specimen. If I caught a 15lb barbel that would be a PB. They say, if you always fish for the same species that you are a specimen hunter.

I don't class myself a specimen hunter, I just like fishing for barbel whatever the size. If I only targeted big fish that would be different.

I agree with everything thats been said above. When I catch a fish thats perfect in every way, fine condition, great colours, and one thats fought like a wildcat (no matter what its size) then I class that as a "specimen". If you just spent an hour stalking a 3lb chub but you finally get your fish...is that not a specimen? It is to me ;o)
