hi everyone, i have been recently thinking about having a go at catching carp, after never really trying to fish for them, i have just recently bought some bite alarms and drop off indicators but i was just wondering where i can find a cheap carp rod to just see whether carp fishing is for me or not, so i dont want to spend so much, i have had a look on tackleb bargains and found one for £29.99 its a matt hayes signature carp rod (any good) or not? and if not where can i find a good cheap rod

cheers everyone

i was surprised to see a usable looking carp rod for sale in tesco extra for £11.99. can't vouch for its quality, but at that price, how can you go wrong? wish i could have got gear that cheap when i was a youngster.

Is it the leeda 2xl as if it is avoid it the handle is way too long it does bend nicely though.

Bought my GF lad a pair of them and two DAM baitrunners for £50 he struggles to lift em so he ended up using an 8 ft spinning rod instead

You're right - don't spend a packet if you're not sure - £30 sounds about right - go for a 2.5lb TC..

I picked up some 2006 Daiwa Regal 2.5's for 29.99 each.

Should be able to find some Shakespeare carp rods for under £30 - try the Ganza.....

Carp anglers will spend (overspend?) more than other anglers on essentially the same equipment - i.e. if you put 'carp' in front of the item description - expect it to be £10 more - hunt around harder for the carp bargains - they are there.

Don't discount using your other gear to go carping - heavyish feeder rods etc. are well up to catching smaller carp - if that's whats in your local waters...

That's the Kingfisher one. A fellow forum member was using one on the beach for soles the other night when I saw him. I never had a play, but for £11.99, it was perfect for what he wanted. ISTR it was rated at 2.5lb.

I keep saying it but Ive never seen so much good tackle at such cheap prices! I couldnt get a decent set of rings and a reel seat for the price of most of these JRC,Wychwood,Fox rods! yet alone build one!

And thats my "non indicative opinion"!
