Finally did it. Of all the methods I found that pouring hot water on the female end then with two of us pulling & rocking at the same time, it eventually came out. Must have filled up 30 kettles though & have probably lost half a stone trying, which wasn't a bad thing in my case.

Seriously though guys, thanks for all the advise. I'm sure I would have given up days ago if it hadn't have been for all your good ideas & then I would have had to put a hold on my beach fishing until I'd saved up for another rod, & suckered up to the wife.
