catfishing on the ebro

Absolutely superb - one of my favourite fishing programmes ever. Considering it was filmed to appeal to a mass audience it had everything I had hoped for. There was an ecology lesson, superb scenery, Withy Pool and a few barmy Brits. It managed to be entertaining without being condescending. Well done to all concerned.

English as tuppence, changing yet changeless as canal water, nestling in green nowhere, armoured and effete, bold flag-bearer, lotus-fed Miss Havishambling, opsimath and eremite, feudal, still reactionary, Rawlinson End.

Amazing to see those fish just laying up in the roots of the tree....and the carp and tench there as well. The only thing i wondered about regarding that 'damaged' perch. As the catfish has throat teeth and no lip teeth ( sorry , my knowledge of fishy orthodantal location terms is very loose ) , would it have cause the damage to the perches back fin. Looked more like pike damage......

I wasn't aware that any catfish species had pharyngeal (throat) teeth or grinding structures. The do lack the sort of real teeth you see on pike and some other fish but many (the non-sucker mouth species) have a sort of roughened portion of the mouth that acts to hold prey when needed.
