Under 10m War

Recommended Posts

Hi challenge so on the one hand you say that there has not been any real competition between the under 10m netsmen and anglers because there hasn't been enough quota to make a gilnet fishery viable. As your reply;

Then you say that if given enough quota, there would still be no competition because fishermen earn a better living off crabs and lobsters.

Truly the anglers in the North East are blessed with great fortune. I do find it unusual that the fishermen up there would not use the extra quota on cod if offered it, or would they take it and sell it on to fishermen elsewhere?

Sorry for the questions, but I just can't get my head around the idea that fishermen wouldn't use the extra quota, and if they did, then this would not lead to extra nets being used leading to less fish available to anglers and mote conflict.

The obvious answer is to give the under 10s a little bit more quota and put the anglers on a two fish bag limit that way every body gets a share.

Leon has just emailed the latest move by the under 10m fishing fleet, one comment that brought a smile to my face was made by Eastbourne MP Nigel Waterson who said:

My answer to that is quite simple, no fish stocks no commercial fishermen, if there is nothing left to catch their viability will down the drain.

I do however have a certain sympathy with them when it comes to the division of the cod quota, there is an imbalance which needs to be addressed which allows a viable living for the under 10m mob whilst protecting fish stocks.

This had a certain ironical twist as well :D

Well they got there own way once again with a 1000 kilo a month hike, typical we ask for 4cm's and get jack they ask for a ten fold increase and get it.

Hiyer mods, any chance of putting this one in the have a laugh section. B) snigger.

Today Mr Joy had screen time and was telling joe public that there's tonnes and tonnes of cod in the sea, and is fed up with not being allowed to catch them.

Free to choose apart from the ones where the trust poked their nose in. Common eel. tope. Bass and sea bream. All restricted.

New for 2016 TAT are the main instigators for the demise of the u k bass charter boat industry, where they went screaming off to parliament and for the first time assisting so called angling gurus set up bass take bans with the e u using rubbish exaggerated info collected by ices from anglers, they must be very proud.

Upgrade, the door has been closed with regards to anglers being linked to the e u superstate and the failed c f p. So TAT will no longer need to pay monies to the EAA anymore as that org is no longer relevant to the u k . Goodbye to the europeon anglers alliance and pathetic restrictions from the e u.

Angling is better than politics, ban politics from angling.

Consumer of bass. where is the evidence that the u k bass stock need angling trust protection. Why won't you work with your peers instead of castigating them. They have the answer.

Recipie's for mullet stew more than welcomed.

Angling sanitation trust and kent and sussex sea anglers org delete's and blocks rsa's alternative opinion on their face book site. Although they claim to rep all.

new for 2014. where is the evidence that the south coast bream stock need the angling trust? Your campaign has no evidence. Why won't you work with your peers, the inshore under tens? As opposed to alienating them? Angling trust failed big time re bait digging, even fish legal attempted to intervene and failed, all for what, nothing.

Looks like the sea angling reps have been coerced by the ifca's to compose sea angling strategy's that the ifca's at some stage will look at drafting into legislation to manage the rsa, because they like wasting tax payers money. That's without asking the rsa btw. You know who you are..

The arguments are about being allowed to catch enough fish of ALL species to earn a honest living not just cod - Wurzel

Well, our Mr Joy doesn't really mind how he earns his living and he, at least, CAN catch cod -

In October 2003, Paul Joy was told by a local ministry official that he had broken his licence conditions by catching more cod in the month of October than was allowed under EC quota rules.

Paul Joy and Graeme Bossom from Hastings were convicted in Lewes Crown Court, East Sussex on the 26th of January 2005, and together were fined in excess of £14,000 for contravening DEFRA/EU regulations.

What do you mean by "Mr Joy doesn't really mind how he earns his living"?

If I remember correctly there were some very dubious circumstances concerning his conviction.

At the time he was working with CEFAS who were monitoring his catch for some survey or other, it was always assumed that all fish caught during the surveys were off quota, all of a sudden they weren't and DEFRA subpoenaed CEFAS for the catch details and used the details for the conviction.

Now as they did with me on our sole fishery CEFAS insist on a written dispensation freeing them from quota and even mesh size regulations from DEFRA before they do any work with fishermen.

As this one is a public record, any chance of a link. Would like to see if there is anything mitigating, first fishery offence and if there was a guilty plea etc. Thanks.

You'll no doubt have noticed that I was very careful not to introduce words like cheat or greed into the description.
