Whilst I don't condone taking that many fish for the pot, and selling is a definite no-no, at least one thing you can say for spearfishing is that it is an environmentally friendly method as I doubt they accidentally spear dolphins very often, there is no by-catch, and no damage to reefs or sea bed etc.

Just been taliking to a guy this morning. He says the biggest threat to uk fish stocks is byecatch and discards. Perhaps we should ban all net fishing and only allow commercial spearfishing.
