fishing within 30 miles of glasgow

Hi guys, new to the forum.

 

I do most of my brown trout fishing in caithness and sutherland when on hols, the rest of my time is spent at a family retreat near dumfries for rainbow trout etc.

 

I live in glasgow and want to try some decent brown/rainbow lochs -- not interested in fisheries to be honest unless of course they are big. I can't be bothered with glorified ponds with 20+ middle ages men flogging the water at the weekend which is a far cry from the scenery and tranquility of the highlands.

 

can anyone recommend some good lochs within 1 h64rs drive of glasgow, I've scoured the net and see the trossach and lake on menteith get decent write-ups, along with a couple near striling and perth, any others??

BTW, Fish of the Week today was a 35 lb Pike, taken from Loch Awe, by a guy from the next village..:) Returned safely too...

definately a place for dry flies.....though a dog knobbler could be interesting, or maybe a cat's whisker.

Banton Loch near Kilsyth is sometimes good. Permits are reasonably priced. If you fancy river fishing, the River Kelvin is quite productive at times.
