Can't read PDFs

For some reason I can't read pdfs attached to emails at the moment. I use Thunderbird for my emails, and have Windows 10. It used to be OK, the difficulty has only come in the last couple of weeks. The only thing that has changed is that I had a card with 4 extra RAM put in cos the computer was slow. Could this have affected it?

What happens is that when I click the name of the attachment at the bottom of the screen I just get a blank page.  I can read Word docs ok, but not pdf.

Any advice would be welcome.

I always use foxit and so far no problems .

That could be useful generally, but to use it wouldn't I need the document in pdf to start with? My problem at present is that it's not getting through at all even though the email says there's an attachment

Yes it would have to be in pdf attached to the email ,in my email on this tablet theres a box that can be read or downloaded at the top of the email (Bluemail) and on my pc its a note at the bottom of the screen to tell me there's an attachment. On BT's main email page if you have an attachment there's a paperclip symbol next to it.

If you cannot see the attachment within the page (in some form) perhaps your mail program isn'downloading it?

Yes, I get the paperclip symbol. It makes sense what you say about Thunderbird not downloading it, but I forwarded it to my wife and she was able to print etc OK. It must be some other problem. Thanks for your help, I'll take it to a computer repairs shop I've found and see if they can help.
