Lures?

just my personal opinion but why youse braid when fishing for perch, 4lb mono does the trick and makes a much more enjoyable fight, ive pulled in perch on braid and it just aint fun, dead wood spring to mind

near enough all the waters i fish have pike as well so when lure fishing braid is the only way 20lb penn and a soft rod does the trick

As for rods I am intending to get a Whychwood Sharpshooter Spin - 8ft, 20-50 casting weight, which from a previous thread seems to be recommended as a good general spinning rod.

I've got the 9 footer Moodyboy and it's a good rod with a nice action and a shorter butt that means I can tuck it right in when fishing snaggyswims.

You should be able to use spinnerbaits and small-medium lures around the 2oz mark. I have used a Rapalla Super Shad Rap a few times out of desperation and it casts far enough but I don't thing you get the right action from the lure with a softer rod.

Andy M - you are correct and I was guilty of not reading carefully. My bad.

Personally I do use braid for perch, but then I am a tight-wad! I hate leaving lures in reeds, weeds and fish. The extra b.s. does give me more hauling power for retrieving snagged lures, that saves me a fortune! Only prob I have with braids is when their colour fades and they become very light and visible in clear water. A black permanent marker soon puts that right!

Maybe with perch it could make a difference but with pike, I don't think line colour makes any difference at all.

strike pro lures rapala and storm all do some very good and well and truly tested lures for al types of fishing

I can only say this.

On the ebro the strike pro as a predator lure for zander and catfish work superb the deep thunder . as for colours well they change from day to day .

so a good selection is required which ever lure you chose.

Once you start there is no stopping . i just bought 70 deep dive lures and thats only because i have a bussiness .

But you wil find that you can also get caught into the trap of shiney lures that just dont work at all

so do some good homework.

There are plenty of people here that will advise you. as you can see from what has been posted so far . if your main species is pike then is that from boat or shore if its any species are you casting or vertical jigging trolling or casting all lures have a specific job to do.
