Image Stitching

Recommended Posts

Just wondering if any of you have dabbled with this before?

For those who don't know what "image stiching" is, a sample can be seen here...

(Click a purple box on the Eiffel Tower)

Basically (well my understanding of it) is where you 'stitch' a load of images together to make a 360 degree view of the room / area etc.

Another good example can also be seen here:

(You will need Java or Quicktime installed to view the samples, its what it runs on :) )

i tried last year with images i took from folkestone ,i suspect as with landscapes if all the pictures were taken from one spot it would knit together ok but i found my mistake was trying to do a panarama of a beach by taking pictures at intervals along it ,if i had had the forethought to keep the horizon perfectly horizontal it may have worked but i found big problens as even a few degrees away from the horizon or especially (and the biggest mistake) from the same point on the compass it didnt stich ,groins wouldnt match was the worst ,hopefully this year will be better

a kind member lent me photoshop ,some images stitched but as soon as went away from facing in the same direction it went tots oop ,i was trying to use the concrete edge of the beach as a reference point rather than the horizon ,as i turned a "corner"(just a few degrees) the groins then appeared to go off at a different angle in reality they all were 90 degrees from me but not each other

I have done it using a good tripod for panoramic views, without a tripod it is never perfect, I use Coral Photo Paint and Ulead PhotoImpact.

I would have to say the concord one may have been a digi cam job from which stills are extracted, I have used this method using Ulead MediaStudio Pro 5 which currently needs up dating or coming up with a cheap form of capturing digi cam as AVI files.

Used to fill in a lot of spare time whilst working overseas messing with this type of thing.

I will look up some of it and post a few.
